iPhone 5S

The iPhone 5S was released the same time as the iPhone 5C and sold collectively 9 million handsets breaking all previous iPhone opening weekend records. The new phone has a host of new features including a fingerprint recognition system built directly into the home button which can be used to unlock the phone and authenticate App Store and iTunes Store purchases. It also has an updated camera with a larger aperture and a dual-LED flash optimized for different colour temperatures.

iPhone 5C

The iPhone 5C was officially launched on September 20th 2013. Whilst it does have a wide of big improvements over the last iPhone it replaced one of the biggest changes is it uses a polycarbonate casing (in blue, green, pink, yellow, and white colours) instead of the metal used by the 5 and 5S, with a black glass front.

iPhone 5

The iPhone was released on September 21st 2012 and continued the trend of staggering first weekend sale with two million units in the initial 24 hours of pre-order and five million units in the first three days of release. The iPhone had a huge overhaul with a larger screen and was shipped with iOS 6.0

iPhone 4S

The iPhone 4S was launched on October 14th 2011 and sold 4 million handsets in the first 4 days of it being released! Key improvements were made with an upgrade to the camera and a huge amount of improvements with a new iOS

iPhone 4

The iPhone 4 was made available for pre-order on June 15th 2010 and Apple stopped selling the phone in their stores and online during September 2013. The iPhone 4 marked significant changes in the look and feel of the case, the screen, apps that shipped with the iPhone and the battery.

iPhone 3GS

The 3GS was release on June 9th 2009 and was discontinued in 12th September 2012. Whilst there were several notable upgrades to the software the major improvements were to be found in the performance and the speed of the phone, hence the S added to the name.

iPhone 3G

The second generation iPhone was named the iPhone 3G and was released on July 11th 2008 and was officially discontinued on June 7th 2010, it sold 1 million handsets over the first weekend! The phone shipped with iOS 2.0 and it introduced the App Store, a way of installing 3rd applications via an official Apple online store.

iPhone First Generation

The first generation iPhone was released on June 29th and officially discontinued on July 11th 2008. During that brief 13 month run Apple sold a staggering 6.1 million units. On the release date there were reports of thousands of people waiting outside stores through out America and many stores ran out of stock within an hour!
